Transcripts

Semester: Summer

Year: 2019

Course title: Teaching for Understanding with Technology

Course: CEP 810

Instructor name: Mary Wever

This course was my first official course in the Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program. In this course we learned how to repurpose technology in our classrooms to create a shift from students just learning content to students truly understanding content. My biggest takeaway from this course was TPACK (technological, pedagogical, and content knowledge) and how to incorporate this into lessons. One major project was the Network Learning Project (NLP). During these three weeks, we had to pick something that we have always wanted to learn and teach ourselves only using technology. Throughout this process, we had the opportunity to build our Professional Learning Networks (PLN) through Twitter, Reddit, YouTube, etc.

Semester: Summer

Year: 2019

Course title: Applying Educational Technology to Issues of Practice

Course: CEP 812
Instructor name: Emily Stone

This course was about questions, problems, passion and curiosity. At the beginning of the course, we did a 5 minute question quickfire where we got to reflect on our practice. From there, we picked one “wicked problem” to research and explore possible solutions. This was a major project that taught me great research skills, survey design, how to give positive and constructive feedback to colleagues, and technology skills. One of my biggest takeaways from this course is: (PQ + CQ) > IQ or Passion question plus curiosity quotient is always greater than intelligence question. In summary, this formula says that people who show great passion and curiosity in what they are doing will excel equally or above people with only the intelligence aspect.

Semester: Summer 2020

Year: 2020

Course title: Technology and Leadership

Course: CEP 815
Instructor name: Kyle Shack & Candace Roberts

This course truly challenged me to look at ways that I can demonstrate leadership within the areas of education and technology. This course allowed me to think of what type of leader I want to be. I also was able to practice putting myself in different leadership scenarios and think critically from a new perspective, as a leader. I also was required to think much like a Missional Thinker and create a vision to approach a problem of practice.

Semester: Fall

Year: 2016

Course title: Professional Roles & Teaching Practice

Course: CEP 801

Instructor name: Lauren Cavner & Eryn Williams

In this course I was able to learn more deeply about how to capitalize on my teaching internship experience. I was able to practice teaching subject matters that promoted understanding and learning. Another aspect of this course was understanding how to adapt the curriculum to motivate and engage students in the classroom. I was also able to create lesson plans that offered accommodations to differentiate for my students.

Semester: Fall

Year: 2020

Course title:  Approaches to Educational Research

Course: CEP 822
Instructor name: Matthew Schell & Michael Lachney

In CEP 822 I was able to explore the concepts of research within education and how these can apply to understanding student understanding as well as teaching practices. I also extended my knowledge of inferential statistics and how this applies to personal biases that may be pre-established within Quantitative Research. I was also able to create an interest survey and learn the key aspects when creating a non-biased research survey.

Semester: Summer

Year: 2019

Course title: Adapting Innovative Technologies in Education

Course: CEP 811

Instructor name: Rachel Matz

This course was all about innovative technology and being a maker and innovator in the classroom. Throughout the entire semester, we worked on a project where you had to capture an image a day to help find your identity and explore your intersectionality. This project really got me thinking about my own classroom and how I might incorporate an idea like this into the school year to better understand each of my students’ intersectionalities. We also had the opportunity to try a new innovative technology. I chose Makey Makey which I learned works nicely in companion with Scratch. My biggest takeaway from this course was facing failure. One of the first assignments we did involved reflecting back on my biggest failure. This was a challenging task at first, but once I completed it, I felt this relief and really realized the importance of reflection and making sure your students know that it is okay to fail because that is how we learn.

Semester: Spring

Year: 2020

Course title: Learning in Schools and Other Settings

Course: CEP 800

Instructor name: Brittany Dillman & Matthew Schell

In this course we learned about learning in different settings and scenarios. To begin the course, we were asked to write our personal theory of learning. Throughout the semester, as we learned new material, we updated our theory of learning and reflected on how people learn in so many different ways. My biggest take away through this experience and course is that learning is constantly changing and varies from person to person. This is applicable to teaching because each student is so individual in every way.

Semester: Fall

Year: 2014 & 2015

Course title: Field Placement

Course: TE 302

In this course, I was able to begin exploring the aspects of the educational field. I was placed in a kindergarten classroom in Lansing, MI. During this time, I learned how to professionally communicate with my field co-teacher and carry myself as a professional. I created lessons for my students that were meaningful, fun, and engaging. This experience had also taught me also how to assess students and implement small group instruction based on student needs.

Semester: Fall

Year: 2015-2016

Course title: Elementary Teaching Internship Program

Course: TE 301

During my elementary teaching internship course, I was able to gain real-life experience in a kindergarten classroom. I practiced planning and implementing grade-level appropriate lessons in a k-5 building. I was also able to practice classroom management strategies as well as other important pedagogical practices. This experience taught me a lot about myself as a teacher and pushed me to refine my teaching skills.

Semester: Fall

Year: 2020

Course title: Capstone Portfolio Course

Instructor name: Matthew Koehler & Aric Gaunt

The Capstone Portfolio course gave me the opportunities to refine a personal and professional webpage for future employment opportunities. During this time, I gave and received feedback from my peers on ways to enhance webpages based on content, organization, and design. I was able to learn how to use different kinds of design tools as well as reflect on previous experiences that impacted me within my graduate experience. This page will be utilized to market myself as an educator and technology enthusiast.
